Barrick Gold settles defamation lawsuit against author and publisher

The Toronto-based miner had sued Les Editions Ecosociete in Quebec for $6 million over its book Noir Canada: pillage, corruption et criminalite en Afrique (Black Canada: pillage, corruption and criminality in Africa), which analyzes the role of Canadian companies in Africa. Faced with a lengthy and costly process, Les Editions Ecosociete said it agreed to a settlement that calls for it to stop publishing the book.
